*THESE INSTRUCTIONS ARE NEW AS OF FEB 6, 2023. IF YOU CONNECTED ANY DOMAINS USING INSTRUCTIONS PRIOR TO THIS DATE, PLEASE UPDATE THE SETTING USING THE INSTRUCTIONS BELOW.
If you're looking to Change the Domain for a site, click here for instructions.
You can easily connect any custom domain name to a SiteSwan website, whether it’s “yourname.com,” “yourname.net,” or any other custom domain. The exact steps may vary depending on your domain registrar, so it’s a good idea to check their specific instructions or contact their support team for guidance. This ensures your domain is properly configured and seamlessly linked to your SiteSwan site.
Here's how, using CheapNEasyDomains.com as our example (these instructions are very similar for GoDaddy as well).
STEP 1
Purchase the domain name from a registrar such as CheapNEasyDomains.com, for example. This can be done for about $17/year.
STEP 2
Log in to your account where you purchased the domain and locate the domain name that you want to connect under "Domains."
STEP 3
Click the icon in the top right next to the domain name that you want to connect, and click "Manage DNS".
STEP 4
From the DNS Management page, click the "Edit Record" button (pencil icon) to change the CNAME Record on the line that reads "www" in the "Name" column.
If you do not find an existing CNAME record that reads that reads "www" in the "Name" column, you will need to create a new CNAME record (see step 5).
STEP 5
Change the "Value" to domain.multisiteadmin.com and click "Save."
(Copy and paste, or type domain.multisiteadmin.com - Do not use your actual domain name)
STEP 6
Create (or edit an existing) A Record for "@" (it might instead appear as the domain by itself, or "brotherjoespizza.com" in this example) and make it point to this IP Address: 50.17.250.125
STEP 7
Create (or edit an existing) additional A Record for "@" (again it might appear as the domain by itself, or "brotherjoespizza.com" in this example), and change the "Value" so it points to this IP Address: 54.164.59.88
STEP 8
Click on Settings > Domain from the site editor.
STEP 9
Enter the domain name ("www.brotherjoespizza.com" in this example) in the "My Domain" field.
STEP 9
Save your changes.
NOTE: You do not need to change your domain's nameservers, only the CNAME Record and the two A Records. You also do not need to purchase any hosting services for the domain.
