Image Size Guidelines

SiteSwan supports the following image file types: .jpg, .png, and .gif (and our platform also supports animated gifs if you want to use one on a site)

Generally speaking, you don’t have to worry about sizing down images before uploading them to the site. The SiteSwan platform does a very good job of automatically sizing down images for optimal page load speed, with only a couple of exceptions, which are noted below.

Logos - If you choose to upload a logo to the header of a website, any size will work and you have the ability to resize it using the built-in scaling tool.

Custom Header Images - Depending on which Layout you are currently using on your site, some support the ability to “Upload full header image.” If you select this option, you will see a note about our sizing recommendations for this image based on the layout you are using.

Please note: Each layout has it's own sizing recommendation.

Site Background Images -  We recommend uploading an image that's about 1500px wide by about 1000 pixels tall. We do not automatically resize this image - we display the exact image you upload. So if you upload an image that is too small, the image can appear pixelated or blurry when it's set to filll the screen. If you upload a background image much larger than 1500 x 1000, the site could take a long time to load. It’s a good idea to check the image file size before uploading it and make sure that it’s less than 1 MB to cut down on image load time.

Content Creation Toolbox -  You can add images to your sites using several different Post Types:

Image Post - you can upload any size image you want - we'll display the image in the same proportions you uploaded it, but we size it down for faster loading.

Gallery Post - you can upload any size image you want - the images will automatically be cropped to square proportions for the “gallery view" but when the user clicks and zooms on any of the images, they will display with the correct proportions.

Slideshow Post - you can upload any size image you want, but they most likely will be cropped to a uniform size / proportions for displaying as a slideshow. When selecting images to use for this post type, click "view" under any image and the system will show you the proportions it needs to be. (Note: use the "edit" option under any image in the image library to Crop the image to the slideshow proportions).

Menu Post - you can upload any size image you want - we’ll display the image in the same proportions you uploaded it, but we size it down for faster loading.
